Permeable pavers around The Square

Pavers found around Public Square have a unique design that goes along way towards protecting Lake Erie.

The brick pavers and gravel-filled gaps allow stormwater to naturally infiltrate underground rather than running off into the sewer system.

Gaps in between the bricks allow water to infiltrate below where it is collected in a water retention system on Public Square.

The water is stored in a collection tank so it can be reused to irrigate plants and vegetation throughout Public Square.

A 3x3 foot section of permeable pavers can accept 180 gallons of runoff per minute. By keeping that flow out of the sewer system, we are reducing the factors that contribute to pollution in Lake Erie.
