"Down the drain" doesn't mean "disappear." Where does the water go after you flush?
Cleveland's Public Square is less than a mile from our Great Lake, Lake Erie. But did you know that the water at Public Square -- like the water used in our public restrooms or water that reaches our sewers during storms -- has to travel 8 miles to be treated before it returns to Lake Erie?
It's an important journey. That water travels in sewers almost a century old and through large tunnels and finally to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cleveland.
They treat all that combined wastewater to make sure it's clean and safe for the environment, keeping our Great Lake great.
