Downtown Plan To Light Up Public Square

Big news at the Destination Cleveland Annual Meeting.

David Gilbert, President and CEO of Destination Cleveland, announced plans to add new colorful lighting downtown that will run from Public Square to Playhouse Square and north to the Mall.

It would be similar to holiday lighting in Public Square but would remain year-round.

Gilbert said the goal is to make downtown Cleveland more vibrant, energetic and safe at night.

He cited cities like London and Brussels as examples.

Destination Cleveland is now working to secure funding for the project with the goal of installing the lights in the near future.

Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb were also at the meeting. Both served on the Destination Cleveland Board before taking their current offices. Both said they are excited about the current positive momentum of tourism in Cleveland and look forward to events planned for Cleveland in 2023 and 2024.

More than 500 attended the meeting which was held at The Madison, a large event space in Cleveland’s St. Clair-Superior neighborhood.
