Seasonal Employee (Part-Time)


The Group Plan Commission (GPC) is a non-profit, civic-focused organization that programs, operates, and maintains Public Square.


We partner with the City of Cleveland, LAND Studio, Greater Cleveland Partnership, and Downtown Cleveland Alliance, to provide the community family-oriented activities throughout the year.

Below you will find the job description for our Seasonal Employees.

 

FUNCTION

The seasonal staff candidate must possess customer service experience and the ability to work a flexible schedule throughout the summer. The primary responsibility for seasonal staff is working at the Summer Splash program that operates from June 1 to September 1 and is open seven days a week.

The employee is responsible for the supervision of activities that provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the children and families in attendance. The candidate must demonstrate personal initiative, leadership, and creativity while interacting with the children. They must engage the children by actively participating in the daily scheduled activities. They are also responsible for maintaining a safe environment for the guests of Summer Splash.

The Seasonal Employee will gain a variety of experience interacting with people across various demographics, ethnicities, religious groups, and socio-economic backgrounds. The employee will gain a better understanding of how to navigate these interactions in order to provide a high level of customer service and present the best image of the Group Plan Commission.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Seasonal employees will work up to 30 hours each week and will be required to work weekends and evenings as necessary. Employees will work outside in the Public Square park and occasionally in an office environment.

This opportunity may lead to a year-round position depending upon the applicant’s employment performance.

The performance of the duties outlined below must be carried out within the principles and tenets of the Group Plan Commission: to treat all persons with dignity and respect and actively demonstrate an attitude of willing service and teamwork.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all of the constituents using Public Square

  • Assist clientele quickly, pleasantly, and effectively

  • Monitor all splash pad activities and identify any safety issues

  • Direct anyone out of the water during hazardous weather or water contamination

  • Provide assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary

EVENT SERVICES

  • Coordinate daily program and event logistics

  • Facilitate group activities to engage as many children as possible

  • Set up and take down the equipment required for event programming according to listed standards and practices

  • Leading individual or group activities during programs and events

  • Monitoring the event area to maintain a safe, clean, organized, and fun environment at all times.

  • Represent GPC at informational tables during events

  • Other duties as assigned

TECHNOLOGY

  • Utilize the event scheduling system to check event details and provide accurate information as requested by guests

  • Complete an activity report at the conclusion of the shift

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must engage in critical thinking (problem-solving, decision making, applied knowledge, creativity)

  • Outstanding customer service

  • Demonstrate relationship building and interpersonal social skills to work as part of a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.

  • Analytical skills to identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions.

  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate active listening skills for a diverse population.

  • Sociable, outgoing, with a professional demeanor

  • Ability to take direction, while providing helpful opinions

  • Ability to work flexible hours

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous customer service experience

  • First Aid and CPR Certification

  • Days & Times Needed: Flexible – based upon event and office requirements

  • Summer Splash = Sunday through Saturday 11 AM to 4 PM

  • Hours Per Week: 30 hours maximum
